MINUTES FROM PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
ST. DOMINIC PARISH
APRIL 27, 2009
ATTENDANCE: Father John Gabin, Sister Mary Regina, Deacon Mark Salvatore, Dan Trotter, MaryLou Borawski, Pete Montini, Helen Parkinson, Kelly Oudyk, Heather Withers, and Pat Aberle
Father Gabin opened the meeting with prayer.
Retiring/New Members: Four members of our Council, Luke Snyder, Ed Moore, Ruth Casey and Pat Aberle, will be "retiring" next month as their terms expire. We thank them for their faithful and valuable service. Father Gabin will be announcing at the Masses and in the parish bulletin the need for new members. During the Mass on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st, after prayer to the Holy Spirit, we will choose the four new members by lot.
Parish Visitation - Make Every Person Count: The important visits by our parishioners took place on Saturdays and Sundays, March 14/15; 21/22; 28/29 and April 4/5. Teams of two went out visiting every home in the parish. On Sunday, March 29th, the volunteers gathered together to celebrate and share their findings of this momentous parish outreach. MaryLou Borawski, Heather Withers, Connie and Tom Perry prepared a lovely buffet luncheon. We enjoyed fellowship and delicious food. But, this gathering was "special". It gave the volunteers an opportunity to express how they felt about visiting homes, listening to peoples' needs, and they offered suggestions for the future. Our mission now is to screen this collected data, update parish records and implement the valuable suggestions brought forth from our volunteers. MaryLou and Heather have formed a fact finding team that will meet on Monday, 5/4/09 and start the screening, updating and implementing of suggestions which will help move our parish forward.
Blood Drive: Please join Father Gabin in giving blood, the gift of life, on Friday, June 12th, in Marian Hall. The Red Cross will be there from 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
Anniversary Mass & Dinner: St. Dominic will celebrate its 160thAnniversary. The parish was established in 1849 through the efforts of Archbishop Francis P. Kenrick, Father John Dominic Berrill, O.P., and a relatively small community of Catholics. The anniversary dinner will be held on All Saints Day, Sunday, November 1st, after the 11:30 AM Mass in Marian Hall.
Eucharistic Devotions: On Tuesday, May 19th, there will be Adoration all day in Church along with Evening Prayer and Benediction at 7:30 PM.
Catholic Charities Appeal - Caring that is what it is all about! : It is through the generosity of the people of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that hungry are fed, the sick and infirm cared for, and children in need of homes are placed with adoptive families, this is who cares. As we start the 2009 Catholic Charities Appeal, Father Gabin requests that we give generously to those in need. Show that we care by giving to the less fortunate.
Clothing Drive: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia will be at St. Dominic Parish in the school parking lot on Saturday, May 16th, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM to collect donations.
Feast of St. Dominic, August 8th: We will have our usual procession to Marian Hall after the 11:30 AM Mass followed by refreshments in Marian Hall. Father Heim's flags always add so much to the procession down Frankford Avenue.
World Youth Day: According to Deacon Mark Salvatore, we have at least nineteen families interested in the trip to Madrid, Spain for the World Youth Day from August 15 - 21, 2011.
The meeting closed with prayer and we were informed that the next Pastoral Council Meeting date is pending at this time.
